AMED – Water supply has been cut off in the Fatih Paşa Neighborhood of Diyarbakır’s Sur district for three days. Women, whose houses will be pulled down by expropriation law, complain that the water has been cut in order to make them leave their houses.

Women stated that the houses in the Fatih Paşa Neighborhood will be evacuated within the scope of the transformation project, which includes historical Sur houses and Hevsel Gardens, and the water interruptions are a policy of intimidation. The women, who don’t want leave their homes where they have lived for years, express that they have suffered oppression because they found the prices given to their homes less and they didn’t accept to incur a debt by having an apartment given from TOKİ (the division for state housing) blocks. The women indicate that they are worried about their children to become sick due to the water interruptions for three days and they have faced inhuman treatment.

Animals die of thirst

In the neighborhood, there are families who make a living from livestock. The women say the pregnant animals have the risk of miscarriage due to the water interruptions and a cow died due to water shortage.
