ISTANBUL – Abullah Çakıroğlu, the man who attacked Ayşegül Terzi for wearing shorts, has been arrested today after being released by the court yesterday

On September 20, as Ayşegül Terzi was traveling from Istanbul’s Çekmeköy district to Şile, a man named Abdullah Çakıroğlu struck her in the face, allegedly “because she was wearing shorts.” The man’s first hearing took place at the 40th Civil Court of the First Instance at the Anatolian Courthouse in Kartal. Despite objections by Ayşegül Terzi’s lawyers, who warned that Abdullah Çakıroğlu could perpetrate an attack again, the court ruled to acquit him.

After an objection by the chief public prosecutor, there is now a new arrest warrant for the attacker, intended to lead to his imprisonment. Several hours after the warrant was released, the attacker was arrested in Çekmeköy.
