SHENGAL - Gülnaz Karataş (nom de guerre Bêrîtan Hêvi), one of the PKK commanders, was commemorated in Shengal by organizing a military ceremony on the 24th death anniversary. The YJŞ Commander Rosyar Vejin made a speech in the ceremony and said, “We will make free captured women in Mosul with the spirit of Bêrîtan’s resistance. We, as the YJŞ forces, we will follow in Bêrîtan’s tracks and won’t bow down to betrayal.”

Shengal Women’s Unites (YJŞ) and Shengal Resistance Unites (YBŞ) fighters commemorated Gülnaz Karataş (nom de guerre Bêrîtan Hêvi), one of the PKK commanders,on the 24th death anniversary in Shengal by organizing a military ceremony. The YJŞ Commander Rosyar Vejin made speech in the ceremony and said, “Heval (Friend) Bêrîtan protected her team by fighting and provided her team to withdraw. Bêrîtan, who fought to the last bullet, threw herself off mountain cliff to avoid being taken hostage. As the YJŞ and YBŞ, we commemorate the resistance of Bêrîtan in Shengal center. We memorialize all our hero martyrs in the person of martyr Bêrîtan and we state once more that we will follow their struggle.”

Rosyar pointed out that Bêrîtan leaded the women’s freedom struggle and continued: “As women, we get together again in Shengal thanks to Bêrîtan’s heroism. We will make free captured women in Mosul with the spirit of Bêrîtan’s resistance. We don’t expect anything from anyone. We give this mission to ourselves and we will keep our word. Heval Bêrîtan becomes the symbol of resisting and hero Kurdish women. We will fight for freedom for all women. We will succeed with the spirit of Bêrîtan’s resistance. The struggle of our martyrs is our struggle.”
