COLEMÊRG - In Northern Kurdistan (in Turkey), HPG guerrillas have taken control of much of the road between the towns of Yüksekova and Şemdinli. Turkish soldiers struck a civilian woman with a round of artillery fired at a village.
Yesterday, in Northern Kurdistan (in Turkey), HPG guerrillas affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) took control of the highway between the districts of Yüksekova and Şemdinli in the province of Hakkari.
When HPG guerrillas blew up a bridge at the 20-kilometer point of the road, the majority of the road passed into HPG control. Soldiers nearby were confined to their bases. HPG guerrillas dug trenches in the road and set up checkpoints until the 20-kilometer mark. Access has now been cut between the two towns.
Clashes continued on and off throughout the day near the entrance to the town of Şemdinli. The many armored vehicles deployed in the area made an announcement to locals ordering them to evacuate. Soldiers launched artillery from one of the bases, striking a nearby village. Shrapnel struck and wounded a woman named Sevgi Dayan. Villagers took Sevgi to the state hospital in the Şemdinli town center for treatment.
Meanwhile, in the town center, where electricity and Internet had been cut, announcements from armored vehicles told citizens to head inside.
