AMED - In the Sur district of the city of Diyarbakır, the people have declared self-government. In response, police have fired indiscriminately on civilians, raided homes and arrested residents--all while children watch.

The Lalebey neighborhood in the old city of Diyarbakır--the main Kurdish city in Turkey (Northern Kurdistan--turned into a war zone on Friday. The children of the neighborhood encountered armored vehicles and bulletproof vests as they went into the streets to play.

JINHA photographer Kinem Tunca captured moments in the life of a young girl trying to understand what is happening to her. As the little girl roamed the streets with a plastic gun, she seemed to be trying to protect herself from police the only way she knew how.
