DÊRIK - Yekîtiya Star, the women's organization in Rojava, has held its second conference in the city of Dêrik.

Yekîtiya Star is the largest women's organization in Rojava, the autonomous region in Syria. Women gathered in the city of Dêrik, in the easternmost Cizîrê Canton, for their second-ever conference. 170 delegates from multiple cities of Rojava gathered in the Dicle Culture and Art Center for the conference, whose theme was "women's freedom is the basis of all freedom."

"Until Rojava women are free, Rojava society will not be free," said Tekoşîn Ehmed, a member of the Yekitiya Star leadership, speaking at the conference. "To reach that moment, we will struggle to secure the right to life of all women living with the chains of domination."

Women next read a message addressed to women by the jailed PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan. After a message of congratulations from the ruling party PYD and the Armenian women's group, the group reviewed the year's activity report and their bylaws. The conference ended with an election.
