ADANA - Sariye Yılmaz, the 60-year-old woman arrested in Adana, Turkey, for attending the funeral of her son, a YPG fighter, has been released.

Yesterday, a series of early morning police raids targeted activists in the province of Adana, Turkey. Among those arrested was 60-year-old Sariye Yılmaz. Police said the reason for her arrest was that she attended the funeral of her son, Fırat Yılmaz, who died fighting against Daesh as a member of the YPG defense force in Rojava.

Sariye was released yesterday evening after delivering testimony at the police station in Adana's Ceyhan district. "If it's a crime to join my own son's funeral ceremony, then I will commit this crime time and again," said Sariye, speaking to the news agency DIHA.
