ŞIRNEX - A delegation including Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Parliamentary representatives traveled to the Kurdish town of Silopi yesterday to investigate the scenes of police terror that began yesterday morning.

The scenes the delegation saw there, said HDP representative Meral Danış Beştaş, "recalled Gaza and Kobanê." The delegation met with eyewitnesses; investigated the homes which police opened fire on; and visited the wounded in the Silopi State Hospital. The delegation also wished condolences to the families of those killed by police and met with the prosecutor in charge of their autopsies.

"The state started war against the people," said Meral, noting that the walls of Silopi residents' houses were pockmarked with bullet holes and the floor covered in shells. "In two homes, a fire was knowingly started. The scene we saw was a summary of how savagely the state has attacked the people."

The delegation worked all day to meet with the responsible state officials, including the district governor, but not a single official met with them.

"The people have the right to defend themselves. Today, in Silopi, there is rage and there is suspicion," said Meral.
