AMED - Yesterday evening, 10-year-old BeytullahAydın fell to his death while being chased by police in the city of Diyarbakır, Turkey.

Yesterday evening, protests against the Turkish army's bombardment of Kurdish guerrillas broke out in the streets of the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır. 10-year-old BeytullahAydın fled the streets into an eight-story apartment building. Beytullah then fell to his death in the airshaft of the building. Beytullah was rushed to hospital, but could not be saved.

Protests intensified over night in the area. The Diyarbakır governor made a statement relating to the incident, saying that, "there was no social event [protest] ongoing during those hours." However, especially given that Beytullah did not live in the building, many believe he fell while fleeing police attacks.
