Police kill woman during Istanbul raids

ISTANBUL - As police raids continue across Turkey, police have killed a woman, Günay Özarslan.

Backed up by helicopters, police raided addresses in 26 Istanbul districts at dawn today. Some 5,000 police officers joined the raids in 140 addresses in Istanbul. Police have announced the operation as aimed at members of Kurdish urban defense group YDG-H (Patriotic Revolutionary Youth-Movement); Turkish leftist organization DHKP-C (Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front); and ISIS or Daesh.

In Istanbul, operations are ongoing, with many of those arrested being sent to hospitals for health checks. Reports indicate that police have killed an Istanbul woman named Günay Özarslan. Police allege that when they raided an address they claimed to belong to the DHKP-C in Istanbul's Bağcılar district, Günay opened fire.

Recently, the People's Law Bureau announced that the woman killed was their client, Günay Özarslan. The lawyers say that Günay was killed in a clash, then found dead when police entered the home for analysis.

Meanwhile, in Izmir, six have been arrested. 10 have been arrested in Bursa and 14 in Ankara. Police allege they are members of YDG-H.

There is still no clear number of arrestees in the operations, but the Prime Minister's Coordination Center has announced that there have been 251 people arrested in 13 provinces at this point.
