QAMIŞLO - After a bombing in the town of Suruç, Turkey, across the border from Rojava, members of the Rojava women's group Yekîtiya Star have vowed to strengthen their bonds across the border.
On July 20, a group of youth from across Turkey headed to the town of Suruç, located just across the border from Kobanê in the Rojava autonomous region in Syria. The youth were planning to take part in reconstruction efforts in the city of Kobanê, largely destroyed by a Daesh siege.
The Rojava women's movement organization Yekîtiya Star held a press conference condemning the bombing in the city of Qamişlo, Rojava.
"This pain is not just the pain of one mother, one family; it belongs to all of us," said activist Welide Boti. "This attack was an attack on humanity. The goal was to stop fraternity among peoples. We are saying now that we will never allow this to take place. All peoples now need to come together around a common struggle."
Welide noted that not just Daesh, but the Turkish state was responsible for the massacre. She referred to the many photographs and videos showing Turkish security forces cooperating with Daesh at the border in Kobanê. "Now those who stood with gang members taking photos along the border are trying to get their revenge together.
"They should now that no one will surrender to this politics," said Welide. "In the face of this attack on humanity, we have to make the bridge between peoples stronger. This is the only way we can be worthy of those martyred youths."
