Twitter ban and censorship in effect in Turkey

NEWS CENTER - In Turkey, there has been a Twitter shutdown and a broadcast ban on footage of the Suruç bombing.

On Monday, a bombing targeted youth activists heading to Kobanê, in the Rojava autonomous region of Syria as they were giving a press conference in the town of Suruç, Turkey. 32 died in the blast.

A Turkish state judge in Suruç has issued a media ban on footage or images of the moment of the explosion. The same judge has shut down Twitter access in the country.

Users of some GSM providers and ISPs have been experiencing difficulty accessing Twitter since this morning. Others have encountered a message informing them that the site has been ordered closed. Some users say they are able to access Twitter through changing their browser settings.
