ISTANBUL - Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of the Gazi neighborhood of Istanbul for the funeral convoy of Cemil Yıldız and İsmet Şeker, victims of the Suruç massacre.
The crowd gathered at the entrance to the Gazi neighborhood with the flags of revolutionary organizations. "Your bombs won't protect you," read a sign in the march, as the crowd chanted slogans against Daesh and the AKP and for the PKK. As the march passed through the neighborhood, shopkeepers closed their shutters in respect. A masked and armed group travelled alongside the march, serving as security.
The crowd arrived at the cemevi (Alevi place of worship) for a minute of silence for those who lost their lives in the struggle for democracy and freedom. The bodies were handed over to the cemevi's morgue. They will be buried today.
