NEWS CENTER - Streets across Northern Kurdistan, in Turkey, were filled with funeral processions yesterday as those killed in the Suruç bombing were laid to rest.

Kasım Deprem and Osman Çiçek were buried in the town of Suruç yesterday. A crowd of thousands gathered at the Amara Culture Center, the site of the massacre, and marched to the morgue to bear the bodies to their final resting place. The bodies were buried in the cemetery for martyrs in the Kobanê resistance.

"Daesh, all their supporters, the forces of the state, however much they want to come at us, let them come," said Selma Irmak of the DTK, speaking at the funeral. "We will absolutely pursue the fates of the thousands of comrades we have buried today and before."

In the city of Kızıltepe, in Mardin province, a massive crowd and a convoy of hundreds gathered as the bodies of Murat Yurtgül and Emrullah Akhamur entered the city. The two were buried side by side in the cemetery in the city's Atatürk neighborhood.

Emrullah Akhamur's mother, Zahra Akhamur, described the moment at the Amara Culture Center when she tried to retrieve her son's body. "I was looking for my son's body and they were throwing [tear] gas at me," she said.

There were perhaps thousands of cars out in the streets of the main Kurdish city of Diyarbakır as the bodies of Veysel Özdemir and Nazlı Akyürek were brought into the city. Nazlı Akyürek's coffin was carried through the streets of the city as the crowd chanted, "martyrs never die" and slogans against Daesh and the AKP.

Erdal Bozkurt, another of the victims of the massacre, was buried in his village in the Tutak district of the eastern Ağrı province. Thousands flooded the streets for Erdal's burial, where there was a moment of silence for all who have lost their lives in the fight for democracy.

Everyday life stopped in the city of Cizre, located in Şırnak province as the body of Uğur Özkan was brought into town. A crowd of all ages marched through the streets of the city. There was a people's security checkpoint set up at the Asri cemetery to ensure the crowd's safety.
