ISTANBUL - Police attacked demonstrators protesting the massacre in Suruç in Istanbul's Kadıköy neighborhood, arresting nine.

Yesterday evening, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) called a march to condemn Monday's massacre in Suruç. The crowd planned to walk down Bahariye Street to Kadiköy Pier, but police attacked at the main Altıyol intersection along the way.

Police attacked the crowd with tear gas and pressurized water. Some in the crowd countered with fireworks. Clashes between demonstrators and police in the back streets of the neighborhood lasted for an hour. One woman shouted at the police: "get out of our streets, you've done enough."

Nine were arrested. Two of those arrested were children.
