NEWS CENTER - Nesrin Abdullah, a member of the General Command of the YPJ, spoke on the third anniversary of the Rojava revolution to explain that the YPJ is not just a military force, but one that aims to transform society.

Nesrin discussed the Rojava revolution on its third anniversary yesterday. Nesrin is a top commander in the YPJ, the force of women defending the Rojava autonomous region of Syria. She noted that the last year has been a significant one for the YPJ, but that the attacks of the Daesh gang have particularly targeted civilians in an effort to stop this rise.

Most recently, Daesh massacred hundreds of civilians in the city of Kobanê, the city where the Rojava revolution was first announced on July 19, 2012. She said that in the next year, it was time for new steps for the project of a new life that Kurds in Syria have begun.

"This new step will be one for the strengthening of the system of democratic autonomy, the increase of our strength and the construction of a democratic Syria," said Nesrin.

Nesrin visited a number of countries on diplomatic visits over the past year, including France and Italy. She called the meetings "hopeful and valuable." She said the YPJ would continue to increase its diplomatic efforts to ensure that the entire world knew of the YPJ's struggle and of the threat that Daesh poses.

Nesrin noted that in the meetings she had emphasized that the YPJ is not just a military force, but an ideological and cultural force that aims to transform society.
