DERSIM - The body of communist woman fighter Sibel Bulut, who lost her life fighting Daesh in the Rojava autonomous region in Syria, was buried in her native province of Dersim, Turkey.

Sibel Bulut (known by the noms de guerre Sarya Özgür and Eylem Deniz) was a member of the Marxist-Leninist Communist Party (MLKP) of Turkey. She died on December 12, 2014 in the struggle to defend the besieged city of Kobanê from a Daesh assault.

A crowd, including representatives from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and other political groups, joined the ceremony for Sibel at Dersim's Asri cemetery. The province of Dersim was home to many other revolutionary fighters, including founding member of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) Sakine Cansız, who was assassinated in Paris in 2013.

"Welcome to Dersim, to your land, to be alongside Sakine," said Sibel's mother Zekiye Bulut, wailing in mourning as she embraced her daughter's coffin. Sibel was buried after speeches by political figures and activists and prayers.
