NEWS CENTER - The Turkish daily newspaper Star has run the headline "shut this hussy up," referring to woman politician Figen Yüksekdağ.
Figen Yüksekdağ, co-chair of Turkey's left party the HDP, headed to Turkey's border with the city of Kobanê over the weekend. There, she spoke out against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's declaration on Friday that he is ready to send Turkish troops to war in Kobanê. She also pointed out that Turkey has repeatedly supported Daesh's activities in Syria.
Today's edition of the newspaper Star ran the headline "shut this hussy up" alongside a piece about Figen Yüksekdağ's visit to the border. The newspaper is owned by Ethem Sancak, a man who has previously noted that he wants to make a "declaration of love" for Turkey's President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The story, which accused Figen of being a provocateur "trying to make the people take to the streets," ran on the newspaper's website with the threatening headline "she's playing with fire."
