TIL TEMIR - The Rojava city of Til Temir has taken in families fleeing the city of Hassakeh, Syria, under assault by Daesh gangs over the past week.

The Daesh gang launched an assault on the city of Hassakeh (Hesekê in Kurdish) five days ago. Some neighborhoods in the city had been under YPG/YPJ control and others under the control of the regime. While regime forces have been engaged in heavy clashes with the attacking gang, YPG/YPJ forces engaged in a defensive operation of neighborhoods in the city.

A large number of Arabs and Kurds fled the fighting in Hassakeh for the city of Til Temir, located in the nearby Cizîrê Canton of Rojava. The Kurdish Red Crescent has been providing food and support for the displaced families.

Afaf Ajaj, a Hassakeh woman of Arab origins, was one of many displaced people at the Red Crescent dinner.

"If [Daesh] were really Muslims, they wouldn't have attacked and slaughtered defenseless people in the month of Ramadan," said Afaf. Afaf is hopeful that the city will be successfully defended. "If the YPJ and YPG can protect our neighborhoods from Daesh gangs, we can go back to our homes and neighborhoods."
