YPG/YPJ fight day-long operation against Daesh

KOBANÊ – After Daesh gang members attacked the Rojava city of Kobanê yesterday morning, YPG/YPJ fighters killed dozens of gang members and captured several others in day-long operations to repel the gang.

Yesterday, dozens of members of the Daesh gang launched an attack on the city of Kobanê, in the Rojava (Western Kurdistan) area of Syria. In the city center, gang members opened randomly on civilians while in several villages, gang members attempted to massacre village residents. YPG/YPJ fighters defending the city quickly surrounded and isolated groups of gangs. Clashes continued throughout the day.

According to the YPG Media Center, Daesh members attacking Kobanê city center detonated a vehicle near the Mürşitpınar border gate with Turkey at 04:40 this morning. The Daesh gangs (disguised in the uniforms of YPG/YPJ allies, the Free Syrian Army) roamed the city randomly opening fire on women and civilians in several neighborhoods, a Doctors Without Borders hospital and a mosque. The majority of victims were reported to be women and children.

YPG/YPJ fighters encircled the gang members in four different locations. As clashes continued, Daesh detonated another explosive-laden bomb at the border gate in the afternoon. YPG/YPJ forces captured three gang members alive at a school in the city center. Local sources reported that the captured are Turkish citizens.

Attacks targeting the rural areas of Kobanê canton began around 5:30 a.m. Daesh gang members launched simultaneous attacks on the villages Berxbatan and Zerik as well as Sevê Hill. YPG/YPJ forces responding to the attacks cleared the villages of gang members, killing 30.

Meanwhile, YPG/YPJ fighters in the area around the strategic town of Ayn Îsa (south of the Rojava canton of Cizîrê) continued to push gang members out of the area, killing six.
