Memorial ceremony for YPJ fighter Terfa Çoko

MÊRDÎN – The family of fallen YPJ fighter Terfa Çoko (nom de guerre Tekoşin Dersim) held a memorial ceremony for their daughter in the town of Kızıltepe, in Turkey's Mardin province.
Terfa Çoko, a YPJ fighter originally from Kızıltepe, lost her life fighting in the recent YPJ/YPG operation against Daesh. The Commander Rubar Qamişlo operation aimed to push Daesh fighters out of the western part of the Cizîrê Canton in Rojava; it ended recently in the liberation of the city of Girê Spî (Tel Abyad), long under Daesh occupation. Terfa lost her life fighting Daesh gang members in the city of Serêkaniyê in the course of the operation.
After the call to prayer that marked the end of the Ramadan fast yesterday, Terfa's family held an evening memorial ceremony and meal for their daughter with the support of the group MEYA-DER. MEYA-DER organizes solidarity with the families of those lost in war in Mesopotamia.
Local Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) politicians were among the many guests to attend the Islamic memorial ceremony and subsequent memorial meal. Attendees joined in a prayer for all those who have lost their lives in the struggle for democracy for the Kurdish people.
