NEWS CENTER – Across Turkey, women marched in protest against the patriarchal state that encourages violence against women in a day of action on Saturday.

In the first six months of 2015 in Turkey, there have been 144 femicides. The danger shows no sign of ending. In Muğla province, women's rights activist Feride was abducted by her longtime sexual harasser. Police refused to take any action; only a women's solidarity campaign saved Feride, a local university women's rights activist. Women's groups blame the justice and police system for the deaths and violence against many women who were not so lucky.

On Saturday, groups across Turkey organized marches and actions under the slogan "we won't be missing one less."In Izmir, women marched behind a banner declaring, "we are rebelling so we can live." At the march, Tuana Oğuz reminded marchers that the only thing that saved Feride was women's solidarity.Women launched a vigil and hashtag for the missing young woman. It took calls from lawyers and parliamentary representatives before police agreed to investigate Feride's abduction.

Women also marched in the cities of Çanakkale and Izmir for Feride, recently-killed young woman Cansu Kaya and all other victims of violence against women.
