MUŞ/MALATYA – Sexist violations of women voters' rights are reported in multiple provinces of Turkey. An AKP politician in Muş told women coming to the polls in his village of Karahasan to "go home and let their husbands vote for them."

AKP Muş MP Muzaffer Çakar repeatedly told women coming to the polls, "Go home; your husband can vote for you." When HDP observers objected, the AKP politician called military police. Soldiers threatened the local mayor from the Democratic Regions Party (DBP). HDP lawyer Kadir Sezen says lawyers have managed to get soldiers to leave the building.

In Malatya, when tensions broke out over the AKP's wish to assign non-registered elections committee members, AKP MP and current MP candidate Mustafa Şahin used sexist language against a woman responsible at the polling station. He told her to be "proper" and raised his fist in the air.
