MÊRDÎN – Teams of women elections observers in the province of Mardin have been at the polls since early this morning. They say they won't leave the polling station until every vote is counted.

"In the elections campaign, everyone has seen that in spite of all the attacks, attempted massacres and repression, the Kurds have protected their willpower," said Hamdiye Ay, one of the election observers on duty today against possible elections fraud in the town of Dargeçit (Kerboran, in Kurdish) in Mardin province. "Today is the expiration date for the tyrants."

60-year-old Nefiye Aşkan is also on duty at the polls today. She says she has seen enough blood, tears and torture for one lifetime and wants to see the elections today change that.

"I have little grandchildren; I don't want them to see the things I've seen," she said.
