ŞIRNEX – The Saturday Mothers (Dayikên Şemiyê) in the Kurdish city of Cizre gathered for repeating their demand for justice today. The mothers, long engaged in advocating for the trial of the perpetrators in state-sanctioned killings, denounced the bombing in Diyarbakır.
The Mothers, bearing photographs of the disappeared and carnations in their hands, today told the story of Mehmet İlbasan and Mustafa Aydın, who were tortured to death by members of the secretive "counter-terrorism" unit JITEM in 1994. The family members found Mustafa hung from a tree. They know the name of the man who led the team that killed Mustafa, but say there has been no justice.
Veysi Durgut, a member of the group MEYA-DER, mentioned the bombing in Diyarbakır yesterday at a Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) rally. He called this the "Plan B and Plan C" that President Erdoğan ominously mentioned in reference to the AKP's plan for the elections.
"If the perpetrators of attacks in Adana, Mersin and Bingöl had been found, no one would have commited such a thing in Diyarbakır," said Veysi, referring to the bombings and firing squad execution that have targeted HDP activists during the elections season.
