AMED – Tens of thousands attended mass funeral ceremonies today for Ramazan Yıldız, 16, and Necati Kurul, 46, who lost their lives in the twin bomb attack on the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) rally in Diyarbakır yesterday.
Representatives from the HDP and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) were out in force for Ramazan's funeral in the cemetery in the 450 Houses neighborhood of the city. The two co-chairs of the DBP and Diyarbakır co-mayor Gültan Kışanak were among the most notable guests at the funeral, where marchers bore photographs of Ramazan along with flags of the PKK, KCK, YPG and YPJ. Mourners chanted "PKK revenge" and "martyrs never die" as they interred the teenage boy.
"These attacks will never reach their goal," said the province's DBP co-chair, Ali Şimşek, speaking at the funeral. "Ramazan is a martyr of the Kurdish people," said the boy's father, Hüsamettin Yıldız. "All honorable Kurds will get their revenge for my son tomorrow at the polls."
Necati Kurul was buried at the same time in a massive cemetery in the neighborhood of Yeniköy. There will be tents set up for mourners in the city.
