AMED - Turkish police opened fire on a HDP election vehicle as citizens of the city were flooding to the hospitals to support those wounded in a bombing earlier that day.
Yesterday in Diyarbakır, twin cluster bombs went off at a Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) rally in Diyarbakır. In the wake of the bombing, people flocked to hospitals where hundreds were taken after suffering injuries in double bomb attacks that hit the crowd late in the afternoon. In front of the city's Veni Vidi hospital, police opened fire on a HDP elections vehicle. No casualties have been reported in the attack.
Resentment of the police's role in the bombing is high in Diyarbakır. When the bombing initially took place, as the crowd was struggling to evacuate the wounded, police armored vehicles sprang into action almost immediately, opening fire on the crowd with pressurized water. Diyarbakır residents posted their outrage on Twitter that they lived in a city where police armored vehicles made it to the scene of a disaster before ambulances.
