RIMÊLAN – Women participating in a consciousness-raising seminar series in the Rojava city of Rimêlan ended their educational program yesterday with the promise to bring what they learned into their work and lives.

In the city of Rimêlan, in Cizîrê Canton, municipal employees held a month-long consciousness-raising seminar series, named after Viyan Peyman, the artist who died fighting in the Kobanê resistance. 24 women attended sessions on history, art, culture and ideology. Women spoke to JINHA about the change that the seminar-raising seminar made in their lives.

Lîna Xalî, of the city's Ecology Center, said she came out of the seminar with a commitment to the project of communizing the land, water and energy, as defended by Abdullah Öcalan, leader of the PKK.

The program ended with the women making a commitment to one another to escalate their work in their respective institutions and projects. Sorgül Mistefa, a member of the Left Party in Rojava who sits on Rimêlan's municipal council, said that all women should participate in similar programs and experience this change in their thinking.

Xaliya Ehmed, a member of the municipal board of directors in the town of Dirbêsiyê, also joined in the seminars. Noting the importance of broadening educational programs in Rojava, she said: "If individuals mold themselves according to humane values, they can defend themselves and their society from all political and military attacks."
