HEWLER – With the commission for a new constitution continuing to dominate the agenda in the Federal Kurdistan Region of Iraq, the composition of the committee has been announced: just four women will serve on the 21-person committee.
The committee composition was determined by party, with the ruling KDP getting six seats, the Goran movement getting four, the YNK four, Yekgurti two and Komala one, with a final seat allotted to the region's Christians and Turkmens.
It was left to the parties to decide which MPs would represent them on the commission. The KDP selected just one woman, Vala Ferid, out of its allotment of six representatives. Goran showed a higher ratio, with half of its four representatives (Bahar Mahmut and Kostan Mihemed) being women. The single Christian MP on the committee is also a woman, Muna Yuhanna.
