AMED – 19-year-old singer Mutlu Kaya, shot by an attacker in her home in the town of Ergani, Turkey, remains in critical condition, say her doctors in the city of Diyarbakır.

Mutlu Kaya, 19, had become famous as a competitor in the television singing contest "Beautiful Voice" ("Sesi Çok Güzel"). An armed attacker entered her home on May 18 and shot her in the head. She was rushed to the hospital. Doctors have delayed waking up Mutlu, who is currently on a respirator, from anesthesia. They have not begun surgery to remove the bullet from her brain.

Veysi Ercan has been charged with attempt to kill with intent. The court has claimed that Veysi came to Mutlu's house with a weapon that evening with the help of his friends, who agreed to help him kidnap her. After friends dropped him off in front of her house, he called her several times that night and refused to leave. The charges say that a witness saw him fleeing the scene after shots were fired.
