NEWS CENTER – Women in Argentina held a march in solidarity with Kurdish political prisoner ZeynepCelaliyan and against the policies of the Iranian state.
Marchers carried photographs of Kurdish political prisoner ZeynepCelaliyan and Kurdish woman FerinazXosrawanî, who died escaping rape by Iranian security officers, alongside signs calling for liberation for Mexican indigenous self-defense leader Nestora Salgado.
Dr. Maria Alvarez, a doctor who has provided health services in Kobanê, was also at the march, where Plaza de Mayo mother Nora Cortinas spoke.Marchers waved flags of the Kurdish women's group KJAR at the march to the Iranian embassy in Buenos Aires. Groups present included the Socialist Left, the Plaza de Mayo mothers, the Socialist Union and the Guevera Youth.
ZeynepCelaliyan, a Kurdish women's political activist from Eastern Kurdistan (Iran), has been charged with being an "enemy of God" for her activism and alleged membership in the Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK). The campaign for her release has succeeded in getting Zeynep's death sentence reduced to life in prison (a major victory in Iran, a country where Kurdish youth activists are executed at a high rate), but she is currently facing loss of her eyesight from being deprived medical services in prison.
