GIRKÊ LEGÊ - Cizîrê Canton in Rojava opened its first orphanage yesterday in the town of Rimelan.
The home for children without parents, called "Orphan Children's World," is located in the town of Rimelan, near the city of Girkê Legê. The canton's women's council organized the opening ceremony, which was attended by local women's groups, support groups for families of martyrs, canton officials and Save the Children.
Canton co-president Hediye Yusuf, speaking at the opening ceremony, said that the people of Rojava would continue meeting their own needs and directing themselves no matter the threats from Daesh.
"Of course, it would be best for these children to grow up with their own families, but in our region, the number of orphaned children has grown recently," said Emîne Umer, president of the women's council. Emîne called on humanitarian organizations to support the project. There was a donation box at the ceremony, which included a musical performance.
