KANDİL – Hundreds of women, including Eastern Kurdish families driven from their homes by the Iranian regime, held a march for Ferinaz Xosrawanî in the Kandil mountains guerrilla-protected area.
Ferinaz Xosrawanî was a young woman who lost her life trying to escape a rape attempt by Iranian security forces in the hotel where she worked in Mahabad, Eastern Kurdistan. After her death on May 4, the people of Mahabad have taken to the streets, with Iranian forces declaring a state of emergency and resorting to extreme police violence in an attempt to crush the protests.
Many families from Rojhilat, who have fled Iranian regime persecution and taken refuge in the Kandil area, took part in the march from the Kandil municipality towards Bokriskan Village. "Ferinaz, you're not alone" and "All women of Kurdistan are with you," chanted the marchers, who protested the Iranian regime's executions of Kurdish youths.
Eastern Kurdish women's defense forces Rêxirawanê Jinanê Azad (RJAK) said at a press conference that Ferinaz embodied in her person all women who are oppressed and belittled by the existing system. They called on the Iranian state to immediately abandon its violent policies against women.
