RIMELAN - The city of Rimelan, in Cizîrê Canton, is opening Rojava's first center for children who have lost their parents.

The canton's Ministry of Women has worked with the Association to Protect Children to open a center for orphaned children, a first in Rojava, where many children have now lost their parents in war.

Selma Ismail, the chair of the Association, explained that specially trained teachers and volunteers will work on the children's education. Children up to the age of 18 will stay in and have all their needs met by the orphanage. Selma says they are hoping for assistance from human rights organizations who can support the effort to raise a "brilliant new generation" and to help reinvigorate the children's lives.
