NEWS CENTER – UNICEF warns that 120,000 children are at severe risk of malnutrition in Yemen, as Saudi bombardments cut off trade with a country that depended on imports for 90% of its food supply.

Christophe Boulierac of UNICEF, speaking at a Geneva press conference, said that the inability to important food, medicine and fuel into the country is affecting millions of Yemeni children to an even greater degree than air strikes and clashes. Saudi bombings have made it impossible for aid groups to reach areas including Haradh, Sa'ada and Sanaa, while the fuel shortage hinders the ability to transport aid even to areas not experiencing intense clashes.

UNICEF also noted that 1.2 million Yemeni children are at risk of preventable diseases as supplies of medicines and vaccines are depleted in the blockaded country. In recent months, there has been an increase in diseases like dengue fever.
