SERÊKANIYÊ – Rojava women's group Yekîtiya Star, founding another commune in the city of Serêkaniyê, say they are trying to speed up their commune-organizing efforts.

Yekîtiya Star and local women have been working to found women's communes in the city, located in Cizîrê Canton, for a long time. The group is now speeding up their meetings with local women to found the grassroots social-economic units in the city.

Women of the neighborhood of Ronahî, currently being rebuilt due to damage, held a meeting yesterday to vote in leadership for a new commune in their neighborhood. They elected a commune president and two assistants to the president. The new commune will be made up of five committees focusing on economy, education, self-defense, healthcare and reconciliation, respectively.

"It's because we've made communal life meaningful that we argue there can't be a life without communes," said Yekîtiya Star member Intizar Mekê.
