NEWS CENTER – After spending the last month in the Balkans, the international action of the World March of Women will set out for Vienna today.
The World March of Women is holding its fourth international action of women crossing borders and building solidarity with local women’s movements in different areas of the world. The March started this year in Nusaybin, in Kurdistan, where women held a March 6 trans-border action with women in Rojava to honor the women’s revolution there. The March has headed west through Turkey, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia.
For April 24, the second anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory disaster in Bangladesh, women held an action with women workers in the Bosnian city of Tuzla in solidarity with women workers around the world. They demanded the immediate payment of the Rana Plaza victims’ promised support payments and improved working conditions in the DITA factory in Tuzla. Women then headed to Zagreb, Croatia, where they planned a Theater of the Oppressed workshop last night.
Today, the women are on the road to Austria, where they will be until May 6. They have a press conference planned for the morning and an all-women festival for the evening.
