NEWS CENTER – 21-year-old Josephine Witt leaped on top of the table at the European Central Bank press conference in Frankfurt yesterday, crying "end dictatorship" and raining confetti and copies of her manifesto on bankers.
Josephine Witt, from the city of Hamburg, disrupted the press conference by jumping on top of the desk in front of Italian banker Mario Draghi. Although police quickly removed Josephine from the room, she distributed copies of her manifesto, which declared that "we own our own lives" and denounced the enforcement of austerity policies in Europe. Her t-shirt read, "end the ECB dick-tatorship."
Commenting on Mario Draghi's role in particular to the Telegraph, Josephine said that he "never got a mandate, never got voted for or elected. He imposes policies on these societies that are completely undemocratic."
Femen (with whom Josephine has worked in the past) claimed responsibility for the action, but Josephine noted on her Twitter account that it was entirely independent.
The event comes about a month after the massive anti-ECB Blockupy protests shut down Frankfurt.
