AMED – Hundreds in Diyarbakır took to the streets yesterday to greet the convoy of four YPG/YPJ fighters who lost their lives fighting Daesh in Shengal.
A crowd of hundreds at the border gate in Mardin province initially greeted the bodies of the YPJ fighters Hafize Mutlu (nom de guerre Besê Amed) and Nuran Şahin (Delila Amed) and the YPG fighters Ramazan Hantaş (Yılmaz Amed) and Onur Polat (Çekdar Batman).
When the convoy reached Diyarbakır, where the fighters' autopsies were conducted yesterday, another crowd met them. Hundreds headed to the road at the edge of the city with YPG/YPJ flags, forming a convoy that escorted the bodies as far as the Gazi Yaşargil Teaching and Research Hospital. The group sang the Kurdish anthem "Çerxa Şoreşe" outside the hospital and had a moment of silence in respect for the fallen.
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Democratic Regions Party (DBP), MEYA-DER (an organization in solidarity with those lost in war in Mesopotamia) and members of the Alevi association Pir Sultan Abdal Culture Association attended the action.
Hafize Mutlu and Ramazan Handaş will be buried in cemeteries in Diyarbakır.
The other fighters will be lain to rest in nearby cities: Nuran Şahin in Bismil, Onur Polat in Batman.
