AMÛDÊ – After the elections of municipal and local government officials, the people of Cizîrê are now preparing for regional assembly elections in the eastern Rojava canton.

EvînQafûr, a member of the Legislative Assembly and the Executive Council of the Syria Democratic Peace Party, spoke to ANHA news agency about the elections.

"We are working to ensure that women are represented in the best ratio possible," said Evîn. "According to electoral law, women need to have at least 40% representation on all assemblies. In Syria and Rojava, women face a lot of difficulties—which is why since the revolution began, women have been such leaders."

She explained that as of the Legislative Assembly's adoption of new laws in October 2014, all cities, regions and towns in Cizîrêwill have regional assemblies. This will be the first election for these assemblies. Elections will take place every four years.

"There will be executive boards on these assemblies," she explained. "These boards will follow and realize the decisions made by the Legislative Assembly and by their councils."

Evîn stressed that women, who have been active in democratic life as well as self-defense efforts in Rojava, would take an active part in the institutions of democratic autonomous confederalism in the canton.
