MÊRDÎN –Revolutionary young women have announced a plan toa punish a man beating his wife in the town of Dargeçit (Kurdish name Kerboran) in the province of Mardin.

The group Patriotic Revolutionary Young Women (YDG-K), which has formed self-defense units to fight back against all forms of oppression of women and feminist, recently received a complaint from neighborhood residents about a man's behavior towards his wife in the town. The group arenow working with neighborhood residents to seek justice for the woman and punish her abusive husband.

Neighborhood residents reported that a man in the neighborhood had a long history of physical and verbal abuse of his wife. Several days ago, the man attacked his wife and threw her into the street. Neighborhood women called on the young women's self-defense group YDG-K for help.

Last night, women descended on the abuser's house, where women exposed the wife beater and asked him to step outside. The man turned off the lights in the house, calling the police and hiding in the house.

Women left the house after breaking a window as a wake-up call to the abuser, announcing, "this is your final warning."

YDG-K women present at the event say they have formed the self-defense units to raise awareness and organize against male violence.

"After this, men in this city need to think twice before they hit their wives," said the women, "because as young women, all forms of punishment are legitimate in the effort to enhance women's self-resistance."

The group says that given the abuser's reaction, they will continue to issue punishment over the next few days.
