First woman commander of the YPJ: Silav Efrîn

KOBANÊ -Friends of first woman commander of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) Silav Efrîn (real name: Meryem Mihemed) talked about Silav on the third anniversary of her death. "Friend Silav's stance in life heralded of our victory. We'll move Silav's struggle to victory."
 
First woman commander of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) Silav Efrîn (Meryem Mihemed) died when she fougth against Daesh gangs just one day later the first woman figter of the YPJ Bêrîvan Qelender died. Silav died with her four friends on Kurmênc Mountain in Efrîn on May 28, 2013 while they were fighting against Daesh gangs. She will be remembered with her stance in life and struggle. She is a cornerstone in the women's struggle which is a significant stage in the worldwide behalf of the YPJ. We handed our microphone to Silav friends on the occasion of the third anniversary of her death. Her friends said, "She is a contract of women's freedom and she is our promise to continue the pitched battle."
 
Şaziye İbrahim had been a neighbor of Silav Efrîn before Silav joined the YPJ. Şaziye said, "Martyr Silav, don't be worrying yourself, many young people have taken your name and have continued to fight after you felt a martyr. When she was a child, I asked her "what will you be when you grow up". She said that she would be a doctor and she would treat the people. Indeed, she was a doctor for her people. We'll stay the course of our martyrs. Silav is the symbol of resistance for women."
 
The YPJ fighter Asmin Rojhelat fought with Silav when Silav just joined the struggle. Asmin said that she was impressed a lot with Silav's companionship and life. Asmin stated that Silav took care of every person and said, "Once, we chatted and I understood how she takes care of her comrades. She was at the forefront in the figth against gangs. She was self-sacrificing. She wanted to be at the forefront everytime. Once, I told her "We also want to be at the forefront"; however, Silav objected that and said, "If something happens, first, it must be happened to me." Silav's stance in life heralded of our victory. We'll move Silav's struggle to victory."
 
One of commanders of the YPJ Aryen Rojhelat, meanwhile, said, "There was struggle wherever she was. That's why many people joined to the struggle when she felt a martyr. We give our word to Silav that we'll raise our struggle and we'll liberate Rojava."
