AMED – Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Council Group decided to carry out their works with the people not appointed trustee.
Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Council held an emergency meeting upon appointment of trustee after the imprisonment of co-mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı in order to determine an attitude. A written statement was made about the decisions taken at the meeting, which was held in the conference hall of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Provincial building.

The statement indicates that the war process in the region and country began when President Tayyip Erdoğan ended the Democratic Resolution Process launched by the PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan in Newroz celebration in 2013 by saying, “There isn’t a resolution process”. The statement emphasizes that the MPs, co-mayors and politicians, who are the Kurdish people’s will, have been taken hostage as a result of the war process.

‘Municipality blockaded’

The statement also notes that one of municipalities held by the DBP, Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality has been blockaded. The statement is as follows; “Following the detainments of our co-mayors, the control of the municipality has been seized. With the circular issued by the trustee appointed to the municipality, all works and transactions have been stopped. Being the people’s will, the municipal council has been liquidated and the appointed trustee has begun to carry out the works through a council consists of bureaucrats appointed by himself by deactivating the council. The principle of separation of legislative-executive, which is the principle of the democracy, has been lifted and has been unlawfully gathered in one hand. For being respect for the people’s will, the elected should be released, returned to their duty and public laborers, who have been dismissed, should be reinstated immediately. By the authority granted to us by our people, we, as the DBP Council Group, will continue our works with our people through the commissions formed by us although our co-mayors have been taken hostage.”
