NEWS CENTER- Women in İzmir, Adana, Ankara, Antalya and Samsun take the streets against the draft bill, which absolve sexual abuse and rape. Police attacked the women’s protest saying “AKP take your hand off the children’s bodies” in Samsun and detained 12 women by battering.

Police attacked the women, who protested the AKP’s draft bill that protects child abusers and legitimates rape. Women organizations, including Socialist Women's Assemblies (SKM) tried to protest the draft bill in Çiftlik Süleymaniye; however police obstructed them and detained 11 women, including SKM member Züleyha Mangan, by dragging them to the ground by their hair. Detained women’s names are as follows: Züleyha Mangan, Fatma Şen Çelik, Bahar Karakuş, Meral Aslan, Şafak Yeşiltepe, Derya Ceylan, Deniz Yıldırım, Şeyma Özbek, Nuray Topaloğlu, Akile Yıldırım ve Bahar Naz Karanlık.

Adana women also react to the draft bill. Women gathered by carrying banners read, “Our lives,bodies are ours”, “You cannot legitimate the rape” and “AKP take your hand off the children’s bodies”. Women marched and demanded the draft bill to be withdrawn.

Ankara Women’s Platform and We Will Stop Femicide Platform (Kadın Cinayetlerini Durduracağız Platformu ) made a statement and organized protests against the draft bill. We Will Stop Femicide Platform gathered and made a statement. Then, the women came together behind the banner reads, “Rape cannot be legitimated” in Yüksel Avenue under the leadership of the Ankara Women’s Platform and carried placards read, “Marriage cannot absolve rape” and “Freedom for children not rapists”. Cansu Yumuşak read the statement on behalf of the platform and said, “The number of cases of child abuse is 16.957. These numbers are only official numbers. Child marriages are a continuous form of sexual abuse. The AKP draft bill which will legitimate sexual abuse submitted to the parliament at midnight. Ministry of Justice made a statement and has revealed their intent by saying, “The draft bill certainly doesn’t involve the rapists, it will just implemented by those who marry children.” We don’t accept the order of rape.”

İzmir women: That draft bill will be withdrawn

İzmir Women’s Platform members gathered in front of Türkan Syayman Culture Center in Alsancak in order to protest the draft bill signed by six AKP MPs. Women protested the draft bill and said, “That draft bill will be withdrawn”.

Antalya women gathered in front of Attalos Statue upon the call of Antalya Women’s Platform and carried placards read, “You cannot absolve rape” and “Our future and bodies are ours”. Women wanted to issue the press statement; however, police didn’t allow women to issue a press statement.

Meanwhile, 17+ Alevi Women reacted to the draft bill and said, “We will not allow the legalization of rape, the draft bill should be withdrawn immediately.”
