Police attack Istanbul protest

ISTANBUL – Police have attacked a crowd protesting the arrests of HDP parliamentary representatives outside the party’s provincial headquarters in Istanbul.

Following the arrests of parliamentary representatives and general co-chairs of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), protests continue in Istanbul. While there have been police attacks on crowds in several districts of the city, police have now attacked the crowd gathered outside the party’s provincial headquarters. The police fired tear gas and pressurized water cannons at the crowd, who responded by throwing stones.

Police have so far attacked protestors in the Esenyurt, Sancaktepe, Bahçelievler, and Bağcılar districts of the city. According to information obtained by the Human Rights Association, a large number of people have been arrested.
