Indefinite protest in Van for co-mayors

WAN/AGIRÎ/ADANA – The people in Van, Adana and Ağrı protested the detention of co-mayors of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality and the raid on the municipality build. Indefinite protest begins in Van.

VAN

Hundreds of people gathered in the Sanat Street of Van city upon the call of the HDP and DBP provincial organizations and protested the raid on the building of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality. Van Metropolitan Municipality Co-mayor Bekir Kaya, the HDP Van MP Lezgin Botan, members of the KJA and Peace Mothers and hundreds of people attended the protest. The people shouted the slogans “Every cloud has a silver lining and the AKP will pay the price” and “Pressures cannot intimidate us” in the protest. The HDP Provincial Administrator Yunus Parin spoke in the protest and said; due to the government’s oppression policy 27 co-mayors have been jailed on various grounds, 34 co-mayors have been dismissed, arrest warrant has been issued against seven co-mayors and now seven co-mayors have been held under detention. “A government which carries out this unlawful and inhuman practice and doesn’t recognize the will of the people, cannot be legal. The AKP government has lost its legitimacy by implementing these policies,” said Yunus and announced that as of today, they have launched an indefinite protest. He also said that they would protest in Sanat Street everyday at 11 a.m.

The detention of co-mayors was also protested in the Çaldıran district of Van.

Ağrı

The detentions were protested in front of the office of the HDP by releasing a press statement. The HDP MP Berdan Öztürk, the members of the HDP, DBP, KJA and people joined the protest. A banner reads, “Amed is the will of all of us, don’t hurt our will”, was held in the protest.

ADANA

A press statement was released in İnönü Park of Adana in order to protest the detention of Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı, co-mayors of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, and the raid on the municipality building by the HDP Adana provincial organization. A banner reads, “The people’s will cannot be taken over” was held in the protest and the people shouted slogans such as, “Pressures cannot intimidate us” and “We will win by resisting”.
