AMED – While female deputies, employees and the people are resisting together against all attacks in front of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, they tell everyone, “We will resist and stand up for our will.”

Systematic attacks on the municipalities governed by the DBP (Democratic Regions Party) and their co-mayors continue with Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality. The building of the municipality has been under police blockage and co-mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı have been under detention for two days. Diyarbakır people, municipal employees and the HDP MPs have waited in front of the municipality building despite the attacks.

The HDP Siirt MP Besime Konca reacted to the attacks on the people and said the state decided about its people years ago and everyone should struggle against these practices. Besime underlined that genocidal policy is unacceptable and continued: “They want to intimidate the people in the person of Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı. Not only Amed people but also all people in Kurdistan and Turkey should rise. With Amed people, we will resist against this policy in all streets.”

The HDP Batman MP Ayşe Acar Başaran stated that the municipalities are the homes of people not companies. She said, “We will protect each other in solidarity by uniting. We will protect our language.”

Ayşe Gözüoğlu is one of the women, who wait in front of the municipality building. She said, “I voted for detained co-mayors and all I want is to see them in the municipality. I am the people and I, as the people want my will to be free. Today is not the day staying at home and watching TV. They don’t leave any channels to be watched. They block everything, they close the channels and organizations, they want to annihilate us. All of us should resist and stand up for our will.”

‘We will win’

Another woman Yüksel Ateş, meanwhile, said they will never surrender to the trustees and continued: “Several months ago, we woke up with sound of bombs every morning. They burned our cities and people alive. Now, they are detaining and jailing our co-mayors. We’ll resis and win.”

One of municipal employees Esra Uyanık said, “No one was appointed to the municipalities, all were elected. These municipalities belong to the people. They want to take these municipalities from us. They tried to break our will with attacks; however we will resist.”
