ANKARA – The repression campaign is ongoing against over 1,000 academics in Turkey who signed the statement “We will not be party to this crime.” Associate Professor Şebnem Oğuz has been dismissed for signing the statement.
1,128 academics in Turkey, as well as many international signatories, signed a statement calling for an immediate end to the Turkish state’s imposition of martial law and curfews in Kurdistan, and for a return to peace talks in the country. A mass police and legal investigation has been opened into all the academics who signed the statement.
The rector of Ankara’s Başkent University has dismissed Associate Professor Şebnem Oğuz from her post in the Political Science and International Relations Department for signing the statement. The rector’s office had opened an investigation into Şebnem. The dismissal is a provisional injunction in the investigation.
